C.C.S.A. U11 Girls Terriers web site 2002:02:28

Note: the web site is pathetic, because I don’t really know how to make web sites yet.

News:

2002:02:28 Game: Sunday, March 3rd. 1:30 P.M. Location: Winslow. Vs. Po Co Panthers (Carrie’s cousin Dana’s team). Organes: Lindsay.

2002:02:28 Important news about the Friendship Tournament:

We need three volunteers for each day from our team to help with the Friendship Tournament.

Contact Carol Veltin: (604) 936-2836.

If you can help it would be much appreciated.

Our U11 Coordinator, George has been extremely  busy organizing the Coquitlam City Soccer Friendship Tournament. There is now just over a week to go. When Cydney organized the tournament two years ago, there were 115 teams. Last year, Dave (U11- G – Cyclones) grew the tournment to 170 teams. I believe the tournament is to be as big this year. I also think, that registration was sold out. When Cyd did it the amount of phone calls to our house drove me bonkers, and now it is 50% larger. This premier event of the Coquitlam City Soccer mini program is well known throughout the lower mainland soccer community.

170 teams * 14 players (ave) / team ~= 2400 players.

2400 players * 2.4 people / player ((grand)parents , siblings, conservative) ~= 5700 people

~2500 shirts

~2500 pop

~2500 hot dogs

170 teams * 4 games /  2 teams = 680 games, referee hours, field hours)

… you get the idea, it’s big.

2002:02:25 Practise tonight will be: review throw in again as we still had trouble during the game (see also 2002:02:17); tackling in a crowd; first to the ball; three second or two step game.

2002:02:25 The next two Goalies are Sandra and C.C.

2002:02:25 That was great game yesterday against the Coq. Eagles. Excellent effort by Linsday on the unassisted goal, after moving the ball down the field so fast that there was nobody in position for her to cross to. The Eagles had a lot of sustained effort deep in our end of the field, and it is a good thing the cross bar of the goal was on our side this week.  You all played a good game yesterday, and in general it was a quicker pace. We are still allowing the other team too much time in our end without being challenged.  We will probably not soon forget that the men’s Olympic gold metal hockey game ended during the half time break of our game.

2002:02:21 There is some confusion about the High Performance Academy that Domenic is starting this Saturday. It is just that, a demanding development program. It is expensive, at [more than - 2002:02:25 correction] almost  double the $$$/hour when compared to the spring break soccer camp. This is NOT re-scheduled assessments or anything to do with the try-out process. Space is very limited for this first phase of Domenic’s expansion of this program into the U12 and U11 girls age groups. Therefore, I only recommended a very few girls for it.  Contact Domenic (604 255-3634) if you have questions.

2002:02:20 Our Game this Sunday (Feb 24th) is a regular league game. We play at “home” hosting the Coquitlam Eagles (Bob Lauro’s team, we played on Feb 10th). Location: Winslow Time 1:30 (please be there by 1:00)

2002:02:20 C.C.S.A. Annual General MeetingTuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 Hillcrest Middle School - Multi-Purpose Room 6:30-10:00 pm.
2002:02:20 Spring Break Soccer Camp March 18 to 22, 2002. Domenic Mobilio Soccer Academy in Association with Coquitlam City Soccer will host this years soccer camp at Mackin Park.

2002:02:20 An update from the division A CUP stuff:

Coquitlam Cheetahs (1) Vs. Golden Ears (3) in the division semi-finals.  Golden Ears is now playing Cliff Avenue in the "A" final. The Cheetahs coach Gayle says “Our girls played excellent against Golden Ears and I was really proud of them.  We lost 3-1, but missed a penalty shot and the game could have gone either way.  Golden Ears is quite a good team, so again I was very happy with the play of the team.”

2002:02:19 An update on the CUP stuff from last weekend:

Coquitlam Cyclones (1) Vs. Burnaby Firebirds (2). Coach Dave said it was a good close game, with lots of back and forth. I guess I’d have to say that us U11 Terriers are pretty experienced at coming up on the short side of a really good game.

Coquitlam Tornadoes (less) Vs. Cliff Avenue Cougars (more).  George did not actually mention the score, but says “… we got kick  by cliff Ave. But the team is pump this weekend because we play them again and we are playing to win.”

Coqutilam Cougars: I don’t know who they played, but the rumour is that they lost in a shootout after double overtime failed to break a tie game!!!

2002:02:19 the next two goalies are Barbara and Kaitlyn.

2002:02:17 There is currently no game Scheduled for March 3rd, but I hope to arrange one.

2002:02:17 Evidently, our game next week is against Coq. Eagles. I’m not sure where or when.

2002:02:17 We had a great soccer game today. I saw a lot of the areas we have been focusing on at practise improving during the game. We are getting to the ball faster, and taking our throw-ins faster. We carried a  good percentage of the play and I’m really very happy with everyone’s efforts and contribution today. Tops marks for teamwork today girls. An area for improvement is throw-ins, where we lost the ball twice today due to improper throw in. Remember to deliver the ball from behind and over the head FIFA Law 14 - The Throw-In (Obsolete link deleted).

2002:02:17 Please wear proper uniform for games. Wear your team Jersey, shorts, and stockings. To complete the requirements of FIFA Law 4 - Players Equipment (obsolete link deleted), wear shinguards and footwear.

2002:02:17 Yesterday our team was fortunate that  we had Domenic Mobilio led a special development practise. Domenic gave us several important tips and suggestions to work on. We will repeat the drills at Monday’s practise both for repetition and for the girls that didn’t make it. It is to bad that the only hail storm of the entire day was exactly during our session with Domenic.

2002:02:17 Please review our teams web version of the City of Coquitlam field use policy. It seems that the city has  observed fields in use that should be closed.

2002:02:17 A couple of girls from our team have been given the chance to attend a high performance academy that Domenic is running. This is an extra thing and not available to all girls. The costs of the clinics are paid by the attendee.

2002:02:17 Sorry for the delay since an update.

2002:02:11 Tonights handout: feb_11_2002.html

2002:02:10 We ended up playing at Winslow, but at least we played! The weather person had been calling for rain all last night and this morning, so it was great that it held off. In the end it was 2 to 1 for the Eagles, with Vanessa getting a goal in what could only be called “stoppage time”, as the referee was only waiting for a break up in the play to blow the final whistle. Today I’m not going to blab on about what was right and what was wrong with our game. (I.E. I don’t have time.) We went to play and have fun and that is what we did. Well done girls. Thanks to the Eagles for coming out on short notice after their CUP game yesterday.

2002:02:09 Actually we lost have Centential field at noon, but now have it at 10:00. The Koas won the game against the Eagles in overtime (evidently, it was a great and close game), so we will play against the Eagles. We also wish the Kaos well as they move on in the CUP stuff.

2002:02:09 We have Centential field for 12 noon on Sunday. The Coq. Kaos and Coq. Eagles are only playing their 1st round CUP game today at noon. We are hoping to play whomever losses.

2002:02:07 The coach selection has been completed: Dave Price will be the coach of the C.C.S.A. U12-Girls Gold team for the 2002-2003 season.  The applicants were Bob Lauro (Eagles), Gayle Statton (Cheetahs), and Dave Price (Cyclones). All are excellent coaches, with soccer and coaching experience I would only dream about. The selection must have been a difficult task. It is clear to me that all of the U11 girls coaches care a great deal about the girls, the teams and the club.

2002:02:06 Well we ended up playing the first round CUP game tonight. It was a good game and the Terriers can be very proud of their game, particularly the second half. However, the score was 2 to 0 for the Coquitlam Cyclones and they will advance to the second round. We wish them well. Cydney has committed to try to organize an exhibition game for us for Sunday. Watch this web site for details as soon as I know them.

2002:02:06 (Brief) Games notes: Everybody came focused to play soccer, well done. We had far fewer “frozen moments” than in past games. We showed good speed on some of our break aways and other teammates supported well. Lets try to be a little faster on the throw ins for the extra advantage before the other team gets organized. Lindsay’s dog somehow got huge.

2002:02:04 We have a game Wednesday night at 7:45 p.m. at Porter Elementary School. For further details see the handout.

2002:02:04 Opps. We forgot to review the juggling contest progress tonight at practise.

2002:02:04 Tonights handout: feb_04_2002.html

2002:02:02 See you at Practise Monday night. Please remember the “on your honour” juggling contest, who can get the most juggles without the ball hitting the ground. The number to beat is 7.

2002:02:02 The U11 Girls player assessments scheduled for today “have been officially postponed.  We will review this issue again in a few weeks.”

2002:02:02 The already re-scheduled 1st round of division CUP game for Sunday Feb 3rd, has been cancelled.

The below is what is expected (From January 29th):

POSTPONED DISTRICT CUP GAMES!!!!!!!!!

If the 1st round is not played this weekend then it must be played by Friday Feb. 8, 2002. If grass or turf fields are not available then gravel (all weather) fields must be used. The games must go ahead and be played.

Cup games will take precedence over league games. League games that are scheduled for Feb. 3, 2002, will not be played. Please have coaches contact the league game coaches to inform them they will not be able to play this weekend.
