Dacor RSD30 dual fuel range - F1 fault code. WWW.Smythies.com

The problem: The Dacor RSD30 dual fuel range intermittently or continuously beeps and displays the F1 fault code or error code.

Many of the references that can be found for the F1 fault, including Dacor sources, suggest that the fault is caused by a faulty ERC (Electronic Relay Circuit). Fewer references suggest that the fault is caused by faulty (worn out) touch pad keys. These modules are expensive to replace and so one really wants to know the root cause before purchasing a new module. By far, the best reference that I found was at appliance parts pros (link not longer goes to the good article, too bad). However, it is not the description of the Dacor F1 fault code that is good, it is the description of the F1 touch pad / ERC test that is valuable. With all due respect to the safty warnings and cautions, perform that test to help to determine the root cause of the F1 fault code.(Summary: disconnect the ERC to/from touch pad ribbon cable: If F1 fault no longer occurs then the problem is the touch pad; If the problem persists then the most likely problem is the ERC board.)
In your case if it is not the touch pad, then review this article before going out and buying a new ERC (in my case, I found the article and tested the microswitchs before discovering the touch pad test article).
Note: If you try to test the touch pad yourself: The documentation as to pin numbering is backwards; The ohms values between pins do not make sense anyhow.

In my case the problem was the touch pad. Of course, the touch pad assembly is integrated into the entire bezel assembly, requiring repacement of the whole thing. Part number 76480B and $314 (Canadian) before Taxes (2009.08.07 August 7th, 2009).
Also in my case, the new bezel assembly did not have the locating and locking studs (see pictures below), so I had to remove them from the old bezel and epoxy them into the new one, being very careful with alignment. I suspect that there was some design change between my stove manufacture date and later ones with respect to the studs.

See also this article, which suggests that the keypad can be bought seperately. That was not my experience. It also recommends against using the self cleaning cycle, but I have not found the self cleaning cycle to be a problem, other than always tripping the thermal protection switch.

The new bezel hooked up, but not yet in place:

New bezel.

The left side stud epoxied into the bezel and its mating location:

The right side stud epoxied into the bezel and its mating location:

New bezel - right side.

As a side note, while I had everything apart, I noticed a high voltage wire very nearly shorting to the frame as shown below. I strightened and centered the wires within the clearnace hole:

Nearly shorting to frame.
